Cool umbrella too. 22 Nov 2009 6:24am ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United StatesUnaware that she is walking into the world. best...jerry 22 Nov 2009 7:03am Seraphine from San Francisco, United Statesi love the spotted umbrella. 22 Nov 2009 7:16am Dulcie from Danville, CA, United StatesI'm sorry to hear of the destruction of the rain...especially when you are getting such a wonderful shot as this one from it. Love these dark heavy tones paired with the wet glare of the street and the jolly pattern of the umbrella !!! 22 Nov 2009 7:22am @Dulcie: Thank you. It's not so bad for us in the city, nothing that a pair of rubber boots and a good rain jacket can't fix, although we have lost power in some areas. This was taken on a day of just 'drizzle' -- the others days I have not dared to take a camera outside. Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, SpainI like very much this image of the rain, and the b/w is great. 22 Nov 2009 7:40am Ana Lúcia from Leiria, PortugalYou have your own, unique style, which I really like! 22 Nov 2009 7:44am Luis A. De Jesus R. from Mexico City, MexicoTalk about rain, wish we could get some down here --we are in drought. I like how one individual is juxtaposed against the other coming up..well seen and composed. 22 Nov 2009 7:51am @Luis A. De Jesus R.: C'mon up Luis, there is enough water here for all of Mexico City! ...thank you for your kind comment :) Nina from Haute Loire, FranceWe are in the same system today if we can not say it rained often this fall and even this summer ... Then your picture could be the picture of the day in any case it expresses this rainy weather and can be your weariness with this weather ... Good SUNday with SUN! 22 Nov 2009 8:33am zOOm from Paris, FranceI can tell you Sharon that we almost share the same weather. Wind, and rain in Paris too... there's something wrong with temperature as well (alsmost summer temperature in the south of France)... so yeah, umbrellas are useful at the moment. Nice mono. I love her umbrella ! 22 Nov 2009 9:42am @zOOm: Thanks Florence. Ah yes, I have heard that as well. What's so crazy is that it goes from warm to cold in just a matter of hours. It's been interesting to say the least :) Anna.C from LA ROCHELLE, FranceI love your composition with the two silhouettes ! beautiful BW ! same weather here ;-) 22 Nov 2009 9:52am Richard Standley from Carquefou, FranceSuperb composition. Perfect for our today's weather! 22 Nov 2009 10:33am Fritsch from Berlin, Germany"A little trouble makes it worth the going / And a little rain never hurt no one" (Tom Waits) 22 Nov 2009 10:45am ruimnm from PortugalBeautiful composition. 22 Nov 2009 11:04am Ariel from Madrid, SpainI am sorry for that... I can only suggest you come to sunny Madrid. Great shot, by the way. Can feel your mood on it... 22 Nov 2009 11:05am larans from Lund, SwedenWell, at least there is one advantage with all that rain: all the funny umbrellas to photograph. Nice shot though. 22 Nov 2009 11:11am Aurore from Montreal, CanadaHi Sharon, love your compo and the light, bright on the ground, so sweet in the trees. I'm in Canada at the moment but the opposite side from Vancouver, Montreal and then Quebec, weather is dry and sunny, i think i'm lucky... Thanks for your kind comments on my blog and take good care ! 22 Nov 2009 12:02pm @Aurore: Thank you Aurore :) Montreal is such a great city and you will also love Quebec City...2 of my favourite spots in Canada. Enjoy the nice weather, it seems that the east and the west are often completely opposite when it comes to the weather. Antoine from FranceSuperb. Very nice capture awesome black and white. Have a lovely week-end. Amicalement Antoine. 22 Nov 2009 12:40pm Tracey from Maryland, United StatesEven before I read your title, I thought to myself...man does she have a lot of rain pics! Love them all. 22 Nov 2009 1:40pm @Tracey: You made me laugh Tracey :) You know, I guess I do...!! Thank you. mo.langel from SwitzerlandVery nice composition! I love the beautiful autumn atmosphere! Nice sunday! :) 22 Nov 2009 1:59pm john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesExcellent. You have done a great job of creating three dimensions; the man down the hill really helps with this. I love the white gizmo coming up from the wall on the left; also the patterns on the umbrella. Very fine. 22 Nov 2009 3:10pm thami from MoroccoBelle ambiance humide qui manque chez moi! Le soleil tape encore fort sur le nerf optique! 22 Nov 2009 3:35pm Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, CanadaIt isn't rain I'm told......it's liquid sunshine!!! Great mood in this picture Sharon! Another Vancouver day... ;-) 22 Nov 2009 3:39pm Fusao from Tokyo, Japanwonderful composition. 22 Nov 2009 3:44pm harry from ndhun, BhutanNice. This has an almost "Henri Cartier-Bresson" feel in the tones and composition. 22 Nov 2009 4:07pm Marcie from United StatesWonderful image. Especially love the polka-dotted umbrella. Always something to photograph..even in the rain!! 22 Nov 2009 4:56pm Buonaluce from Calci, ItalyGreat shot as usual. The rain can indeed be a source of great pictures. 22 Nov 2009 5:10pm Pere Chuliá from SpainUna composición de libro. Parece sacada de una exposición de fotografía clásica. Muy buen trabajo. Los reflejos sobre el suelo son muy buenos. 22 Nov 2009 5:19pm Klaus from GermanyI don't like rain, but you make it pleasant .. great job. Yes, i had flu, 4 days high temperature. I think i'm over the hill, but i feel worse for wear. 22 Nov 2009 5:51pm Stef67 from in my head, Francel homme au manteau parait surgir d un autre temps, intemporel est le temps quelque soit le temps^^ 22 Nov 2009 6:29pm rian from Mobile, United Stateshmm, it doesn't bode well for you guys there.. at least the wet roads make for wonderful reflections when photographing them.. :) this is one great capture.. :) 22 Nov 2009 6:50pm Liang from San Francisco, United Statesi love everything about this photo sharon! the framing, the mood, the character, the weather... just pure genius shot! oh yeah, i have changed my URL, so updating your feed will be vastly appreciated. =] 22 Nov 2009 6:52pm grouser from Ludlow, United KingdomSame here though the worst of the weather is further northin the Lake District where they had 14 inches (a months worth) in a day. Floods eight feet deep and abridge washed away. But I digress :). Nicely frozen moment in time. That foot forever off the ground. 22 Nov 2009 7:02pm k@ from Paris, FranceLove the compo and that one with the umbrella on the verge of meeting the other one coming up (maybe he secretly carries the sun in its revolver pocket ?) - and I also love the dome over the columns in the background echoing the shape of the umbrella and the legs & vertical bars in distance. Rain is really a great bore for photographers unable to go out that freely, and yet, look at that fabulous shot. Maybe one photo under the rain is equal to 3 under the sun ? Soul-speaking... I guess i have to believe in this since as Florence/zOOm says, we're floating over (under ?) the same ship lately ;) Courage, we'll linger on, yep (and wet :)) 22 Nov 2009 7:50pm Steve Rice from Olympia, United StatesIsn't that the truth. You are brave to venture out to get this gorgeous shot. 22 Nov 2009 10:09pm Arnd from Basel, SwitzerlandFabulous quote - and the image matches it really well. 22 Nov 2009 11:15pm Brian Chen from Seattle, WA, United StatesI can definitely relate to you there. Living in the Seattle area its almost the same. Heavy rains and string winds each night. Makes me want to just stay in bed all day long. I have been lucky though as our power hasn't gone out yet. Have a wonderful thanksgiving! 23 Nov 2009 12:07am akarui from Kagoshima, JapanBeautiful composition taken on a rainy day. I love the small man coming up. There is a great depth in the picture. 23 Nov 2009 12:10am hugo poon from hong kong, Hong KongPretty cinematic... poetic and emotive too! I can feel the air of cold and wet, and one of sentiment! Beautiful light, silhouette and b&w... 23 Nov 2009 12:18am Bill from Pacific Northwest, United StatesThis really captures the mood you described. 23 Nov 2009 2:46am JoeB from Brampton, CanadaVancouver is famous for its rain, but recently you've had more than your share an umbrella is part of the ensemble. 23 Nov 2009 3:01am Michael from United KingdomI love this shot, it's atmospheric and... very human. 23 Nov 2009 3:41am *MЯG* from Tehran, Iransmell of the rain... 23 Nov 2009 6:12am jpla from st Barthélémy d'Anjou-49, FranceBelle composition et joli N&B. Bonne journée. 23 Nov 2009 6:16am Craig@Random Ramblings from Herts, United KingdomI just love this composition, it really is perfect in my eyes. The weather is the same here, more rain than I can remember, ever! 23 Nov 2009 8:35am Pavan Kaul from Mumbai, IndiaWonderful composition...I love the light reflecting off the wet surface of the street! Great shot! 23 Nov 2009 8:44am Hiro from Kyoto, JapanI sometimes try to take pictures on rainy day. If it is not heavy, not so bad. I will enjoy rainy days as you do. 23 Nov 2009 8:45am elaine- from Canadayes i'm getting sick of the weather here too, i don't mind heavy rain, as long as it doesn't flood, because heavy rain reminds me of back home... but i do mind high winds, as high winds can be quite destructive, especially to OUR roof lol this is a pretty picture and the umby doesn't look like it's suffering in high winds... love it!! 23 Nov 2009 8:46am @elaine-: Thanks Elaine. Let's hope we get a break from the winds and rains soon. This was not shot during what I described as it's been impossible to get out and shoot over the past week or so. Although taken on a rainy day this month, there was no wind on this day :) Anina from Auckland, New ZealandWOW!! This is beautiful!! I love the lighting and contrast. Very well done 23 Nov 2009 9:21am Angel Corrochano from Madrid, SpainA black and white “humidity” plenty. Very good taking. Warm greetings 23 Nov 2009 9:23am grouser from Ludlow, United KingdomI understated the number of bridges down in my previous comment which touched on the Lake District. According to last nights news it is now six. Every other bridge in the area has to be checked and more will certainly have to be demolished. I wonder how many more wake up calls we need. 23 Nov 2009 10:54am @grouser: Yikes! I guess it takes something like this for those in charge and responsible to sit up and take notice. Terrible! Manuela M from Rennes, FranceUne scène très automnale!! 23 Nov 2009 12:10pm Jean-Luc T from Juignac, FranceA beautiful capture. Going away under the rain... We imagine... 23 Nov 2009 1:55pm Don from spokane, United StatesYour picture today with the umbrella equipped person certainly conveys the continuing rain and wind you've been experiencing. Wind and rain are not only discouraging, but very difficult to photograph and protect the equipment at the same time. 23 Nov 2009 4:02pm Framed and Shot from Houston, United StatesGreat tones of grey - and that spotted umbrella is just spot on! Would not have been t he same with a black one!! 23 Nov 2009 5:28pm NJ & SB Photography from SpainMe gustan los dias de lluvia, debe de ser porque en mi pais llueve poco :) 23 Nov 2009 5:39pm micke bergling from SwedenAutumn and rain ... a terrible combination! But I like your photo is wonderful 23 Nov 2009 6:14pm dj.tigersprout from New York City, United Statesooh -- the weather this year has been dreadful -- it rained all summer and is still predicted to rain this week... crazy! it should have stopped raining 6 months ago! :P i see the weather is acting just as wonderfully abnormal for you guys too...! stay dry and keep warm!! :) a lovely shot here -- love all the evergreen, the polkadot pattern of the umbrella and how the wet pavement shines in the available light!! bravo BC!!!! :) xxx 23 Nov 2009 6:40pm dabbler from Minneapolis, United Statesyou have rain, we have snow... sigh - you definitely arise above all the adversities as manifested by this beautiful image - bravo! :-) 23 Nov 2009 7:14pm Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesI like that you're still enjoying photography in the rain :))) Nice shot. 23 Nov 2009 7:50pm Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, FranceSame sad weather here, but not possible to have an umbrella... too much wind !!! 23 Nov 2009 9:06pm Marie from FRESNES, Afghanistanjolie composition, un peu triste, comme un départ... 23 Nov 2009 9:27pm Alivia from Saint-Etienne, FranceA sad fall, water and mixed leaf, the character goes out into the light of the wet. There is in this picture a whole atmosphere, an atmosphere that is born of the interplay of light, like that sweet nostalgia sublime autumn. 23 Nov 2009 9:54pm Bishop from Houston, United StatesSome places the rain never stops, some places it doesn't rain enough! :) 23 Nov 2009 11:17pm |
