be a playerPosted by bluechameleon (Vancouver, Canada) on 9 August 2008 in People & Portrait. Still to this day I am nervous when it comes to photographing people, but there are times (such as this) that I just can't help myself. 'Get the shot and keep walking'...seems to be my mantra and so far it appears to be working for me. No one has chased me down just yet. All Rights Reserved © Sharon Wish

ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United Statesi shake my head, and walk off in disgust. why did they ruin my picture of the sign in the background? : ] best...jf 9 Aug 2008 5:07am Badlydrawnboy from United States:-) Looks like that woman was thinking about chasing you though! A dynamic moment, full of life. I always feel moved by your pictures, bluechameleon. Thank you. 9 Aug 2008 5:10am Kylie Greenan from Richmond, AustraliaWhat a classic photo, the expression on their faces is priceless...I think they need to spend the $5! I am glad no one has chased you down the street yet Bluechameleon, I dare say if they were a few years younger they might have judging by their expression, you picked your targets well and a what a wonderful image! Glad you took the chance! 9 Aug 2008 5:31am lisa v from Gawler, AustraliaI get nervous too..they look quite cross, I think you had a lucky escape :D 9 Aug 2008 6:22am Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaHey Blue, I love people portraits, what I usually do is take the photo and then show it to them and ask if they mind 9 times out of 10, they don't mind at all...but sometimes by a certain look, I know instinctively do and die, you know lol She didn't look too pleased I would have run like hell..THIS IS EXCELLENT! and I have to say, daring ;) 9 Aug 2008 6:29am Faramarz from Tehran, Iranwhat a live shot.. :) i love it. 9 Aug 2008 12:41pm Marion from Nanaimo, BC, CanadaI am thinking that if she could have she would have run after you. What an expressioon on the lady's face. Just a little scary and he looks rather grumpy too. Love the street shots. Lorraine takes great ones. I have never worked up enough nerve to take any. ;D. This is excellent and I love it in b&w. Great depth to it. 9 Aug 2008 1:01pm Vincent Bertrand from Montréal, CanadaYou can usually get away with a smile. People may think you're some kind of weirdo escaped from the zoo, but who cares when you have your shot! 9 Aug 2008 2:16pm Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaGreat fun shot. That woman could be ready to chase. 9 Aug 2008 2:17pm sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United StatesI had just taken a swig of my 2nd cuppa java when I read your description. Thank goodness I didn't spew it all over my laptop:-) I feel the say way about people and this couple is looking at you like they aren't too pleased...or perhaps they always have that look:-) Cameras are suspect nowadays for anything it seems. Last week I stopped in the street to take a pic of a vintage truck at one house and while I was snapping the shot the man from next door came out and yelled at me...lol. I love this shot though. It's clarity and richness speak for the quality and the greyscale leaves the eye to seeing the looks of the couple:-) Glad you scurried off:-) 9 Aug 2008 2:33pm Michael Rawluk from Williams Lake, CanadaShe looks quite stern like she is going to spank you. 9 Aug 2008 4:51pm Rui from Leiria, PortugalFantastic. Their expressions are simply priceless. They were thinking "If you pass closer..." Great moment BC 9 Aug 2008 11:27pm Mike from United StatesI admire anyone that can do this type of photography and, wish I could. Your tip of shoot and keep walking is pretty encouraging, though. However, that woman seems none to happy. If you didn't say 'walk' in there, I would have sworn that you used a tripod. The shot is really sharp. Great tones in the b&w as well. Impressed again. 10 Aug 2008 12:07am dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, United Stateswow -- love the contrast of the harsh and even stern look on the woman's face and the light, carefree and somewhat alluring poster of wealth and possible sexuality from the casino poster behind her! just a wonderful juxtaposition! love your philosophy of shoot and run too! so daring! you would certainly be able to outrun this couple! :D excellent and very humorous streets shot, bravo! 11 Aug 2008 6:17am Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesThe other way is to go Goethe, something like the phrase: be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid. Well, the be bold part anyway. Sometimes discretion is called for but I find that the bold approach can work pretty well too. You can't usually be bold though if you want "candid." How you're equipped may influence the perception, but I find that many people assume I'm a professional, and for some reason, if they think you're shooting for the local paper they don't seem to mind as much as if they think you're shooting for yourself. I'll warn you though, I'm often questioned when I use this approach, and people don't react very well if you tell them the naked truth, so some embellishment is in order. The preferred explanation is essentially anything for which you're getting paid. 17 Aug 2008 8:54pm |
