Liang from San Francisco, United StatesLike the overall candor displayed here. The joker face adds a nice touch, great subject matter! 29 Oct 2009 5:25am Andrei Barbu from Timisoara, RomaniaGreat shot, i like the scene! Very well composed and good framing! 29 Oct 2009 5:58am dobbino from Cape Town, South AfricaFantastic image - and a wonderful quote to go with it :) 29 Oct 2009 6:31am Dulcie from Danville, CA, United StatesLove your quote..it made me laugh. 29 Oct 2009 6:50am Sockpuppet from Canberra, Australiav is for...very well done. the partial-backlight really adds depth to your subject, and the black and white treatment suits the scene. great photo on many levels. 29 Oct 2009 7:11am k@ from Paris, FranceA very intriguing photo, Sharon : love how the two smiles - real one, and fake one - make an echo, how the White (on the left part) & Black (on the right) do the same here and how something ironic (echoing now Oscar Wilde's quote like the title does with Scientologie stuff) floats over all these elements you gathered in your frame... The car takes a large part in this photo and since it's total dark it adds another mystery (what kind of crime is going on indoors.....) Yep, a very intriguing photo like we love them ! Have a nice end of week* 29 Oct 2009 7:20am Bill from Pacific Northwest, United StatesDitto Karine's observations above. An intriguing, eerie image. 29 Oct 2009 7:28am zOOm from Paris, FranceMakes me think of V for Vendetta ! Looks definitely like coming out of a movie, spectacular depth of field but this memorable B&W mood. Thrilling. 29 Oct 2009 7:59am Fritsch from Berlin, Germany"I just want you to know I can see through your mask" (Bob Dylan) 29 Oct 2009 8:07am 6ft5 from stockholm, SwedenEvey Hammond: Are you a Muslim? Love this image! 29 Oct 2009 9:12am Angel Corrochano from Madrid, SpainI like the atmosphere that surrounds to your photographies. They have that mysterious air, very urban and very impressive. Warm greetings 29 Oct 2009 9:38am Ariel from SpainWell, this kind of pictures keep proving it. Masks are scary! 29 Oct 2009 9:40am Pepe Cabrera from PhilippinesI love this! I been looking for that mask here, can't find it! Excellent B&W! 29 Oct 2009 11:07am Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, CanadaNicely captured Sharon! This active street scene show us the two faces of reality....... ;-) 29 Oct 2009 11:32am Manuela M from Rennes, FranceUne photo reportage fantastique!! 29 Oct 2009 11:40am Polydactyle from Montreal, CanadaVery nice documentary shot Sharon! This group is very active in Montreal and we can see their demonstration every week. Excellent contrast. 29 Oct 2009 11:51am @Polydactyle: Thanks David. I was on the other side of the street when this happened which is unfortunate as I would have liked to have gotten more. Can't say I have seen them here in Vancouver, but perhaps I've just missed them. Crash from Weehawken, NJ, United Statesthat V for Vendetta guy sure does get around! 29 Oct 2009 12:04pm Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaOh Sharon, this is priceless, spooky as all get go, very supernatural...oooo good girl :) 29 Oct 2009 12:45pm john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesDynamite photograph, Sharon. Perfect lighting. Great quote from Wilde. 29 Oct 2009 2:43pm dj.tigersprout from New York City, United States'V' is for VENDETTA!! ;) wow, kinda creepy -- but wonderfully stark in b/w -- love how most of the frame is just background textures and tones, with less detail. the mask is really the only thing i see... a powerful and thought provoking image BC!! of course the quote is pricess!!! :) 29 Oct 2009 4:16pm marc battault from clermont ferrand, Francea nice athmosphere "black", and most importantly, timely with us because France has just taken place the trial of the Church of Scientology! 29 Oct 2009 5:18pm Marcie from Newton, United StatesWhat a great accompanying quote. Love the contrast in this...the 'mood'!!! 29 Oct 2009 6:10pm ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United StatesThe Wilde quote: ROFL best...jerry 29 Oct 2009 6:37pm Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesI think V's face alone is symbolic of truth and courage in taking on a huge dark force. Strong shot! 29 Oct 2009 7:00pm Macrobaby from Vancouver, CanadaWhere do you find these shots.....they are always amazing. :) 29 Oct 2009 8:55pm @Macrobaby: I took this one in Seattle...just walking along the street. Thank you Rhonda :) thami from MoroccoOui, pour démasquer tous les obscurantismes, tous les fanatismes, toutes les sectes, tous les sectaires...etc. 29 Oct 2009 8:58pm Steve Rice from Olympia, United StatesFabulous! This is a spectacular image. Love the way the mask, sign, and lady pop against the darker background. 29 Oct 2009 9:49pm sebastian from GermanyV .... what a wonderful picture. there's so much in it. amazing! 30 Oct 2009 12:06am Luis A. De Jesus R. from Mexico City, MexicoThese guys are the same ones that march in England against Scientology, right? Movement's hit Canada too, I see. Everyone competes for the hearts and minds of his fellow man. Funny thing about information in our day in age is the more you have of it, the less you seem to understand the issues. People focus on bits and pieces at a time and don't see the general picture. Apropos, I assume you are out of the flu fiasco...was it H1N1? Just curious, but most importantly it's great to "see" you are doing fine now. 30 Oct 2009 12:27am @Luis A. De Jesus R.: Yes, I believe they are the same group. I've not seen them here in my city, but perhaps I've just missed them. I shot this in Seattle a few weeks ago. As for the flu, I no longer have it, but I still have it's lingering effects, like the cough, as well as becoming easily fatigued. I really don't know which one I had, it's possible that it was the H1N1 due to the symptoms and length of the illness, but I can't tell you for certain. Thanks Luis :) jeff (aka dogilicious) from Millerstown, PA, United StatesExcellent choice for b/w. Very interesting shot as well as the CoS stuff in the news recently. 30 Oct 2009 1:23am Aurore from Paris, FranceMasked and diabolical are those who would like to provide us happiness and paradise with slogans and... money ! :) I like the two smiles in your photo, real one and masked one, quite terrifying to see the success of scientology... so much information everywhere, everytime... 30 Oct 2009 3:08am Stephane Themeze from Maryland, United StatesWe don't see too much of that here. I don't wonder why. But I'm glad to see that it is denounced and that we are being informed by some who are really concerned about us being concerned. 30 Oct 2009 4:18am Pavan Kaul from Mumbai, IndiaSomehow this image is chilling....the smiling mask seems to conceal a dark intent...great light and tone! 30 Oct 2009 6:13am Anina from Auckland, New ZealandFantastic!!! Great light and B&W processing. Great quote. Well done 30 Oct 2009 8:15am Nina from Haute Loire, FranceThe smile is sometimes artificial, is an invitation to pay attention especially to those who say they engage in a church and are able to seize your mind! 30 Oct 2009 8:49am Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaObviously an injured former scientologist. A great find, Sharon. i love the expression on his mask so opposite to the message on his board. 30 Oct 2009 12:58pm Monique from Koh Samui, ThailandI've heard about Scientology but don't know the ins and outs ... I guess these demonstrators do! Strong photo, love the artificial smile of the Joker! 30 Oct 2009 1:18pm ryse from bordeaux, FranceUn faux sourire pour mieux cacher l'envers du décor... 30 Oct 2009 1:29pm Stef67 from in my head, Francele crime ne pays pas dit on, pourvu que......................^^ 30 Oct 2009 4:29pm Scott F. Schilling from San Martin, United StatesWonderful work on this image! This has s lot of visual interest with the man in the mask and sign! I like the deep shadows also! 30 Oct 2009 4:55pm Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United KingdomWhat a delightfully corrupting quote of Mr Wilde you have there in this passionate image. 31 Oct 2009 12:16am RPepper from Brooklyn, United StatesOh wow,t his is simply fantastic. I wish I was there in the moment this shot was taken. 31 Oct 2009 12:24am Mark from London, United KingdomI see these guys every weekend outside the Ron's place, but, I still see people going in to have their personalities tested. By the way - I like the photograph. 31 Oct 2009 1:08am John Maslowski from Dallas, PA, United StatesStunning work as usual Sharon, the cynical smiling mask really captures ones attention. Like the contrast with the young innocent smiling young lady. Fascinating composition that I find myself staring at. Great job! 31 Oct 2009 3:48am Andrew Gould from Sydney, AustraliaGreat street capture with that something extra to make it truly memorable. 31 Oct 2009 6:20am rian from mobile, United Statesthat's one cool way to protest scientology.. :D nice shot.. 31 Oct 2009 3:00pm Bertrand from Paris, FranceNice "v for vendetta" ;) Nice shoot even if the man are maybe too center 2 Nov 2009 8:48pm sara from paris, FranceNotre président, par une manoeuvre scandaleuse, a sauvé la scientologie de la dissolution le mois dernier. 3 Nov 2009 6:02am Cricket-TammyWarren from somewhere, United StatesThis type of mask has always given me the creeps. I'm not sure why!!?? Love the image. 3 Nov 2009 3:34pm Marah Saoudi from Casablanca, MoroccoTrès bonne initiative si tout le monde faisait fait pareil il y aurait moins de crime. 4 Nov 2009 12:40pm michele from Canadai'm not sure what to say about this one other than i really like it. i like the grins and the dark/light balance. the whites seem to beautifully white and clean. 18 Nov 2009 3:45am Mike Cole from Stanfordville, United Statesthis is really incredible! it has a tinge of dark humor to it. 20 Nov 2009 3:43pm |
