I love the stacking buildings into the distance and the crowd in the middle. Great b/w. 20 May 2010 6:12am JD from Northern Ireland, United Kingdomlove the comp, all the people seem to be in unison, excellent timing! 20 May 2010 6:38am Fritsch from Berlin, Germany"Ain't talkin', just walkin' / Walkin' ever since the other night / Heart burnin', still yearnin' / Walkin' ‘til I'm clean out of sight" (Bob Dylan) 20 May 2010 7:45am Angel from Madrid, SpainThat taste gives to take a walk by a great street, closed to the traffic, you feel frees. black and white an exceptional one, as always I admire it. 20 May 2010 8:10am STEED from Somewhere, FranceFabulous City Mood ...................I Love your Picture,S............. 20 May 2010 8:34am JoeB from Brampton, CanadaTake me to the Vogue, hopefully it still plays films. 20 May 2010 11:17am mo.langel from Courtelary, SwitzerlandGreat B/W! There seems to be a festive feel to this shot...... ;-) 20 May 2010 11:53am MARIANA from Waterloo, CanadaA super street scene and situation that is going on on streets starting with Spring and finishing in October ! Super cool shot , especially for us Canadians :) 20 May 2010 1:09pm MARIANA from Waterloo, Canadaoh, it is too early for me , and now I see I was wrong with above . Looks like this street is closed for traffic only.. that is cool . Love streets like these when people can walk freely where ever they wish :)) 20 May 2010 1:11pm @MARIANA: Nothing wrong with the comment about this comment Mariana :) They close off a certain section of Granville Street every spring and summer, although with preparing for the Olympics (now come and gone) it's been closed to traffic for some time. now. One of the reasons I find this particular scene so fascinating is because I've been looking at some old photos of Vancouver, stuff from the early 1900's, and it seems that people would gather on one particular street, and mill about. As I stood and watched everyone here, it reminded me of those old photos.... And yes, it's damn noisy and dusty! :-) Amanda from Jersey City, United StatesOutstanding street shot! The best streets are those where people flood into them and take over the city. 20 May 2010 1:32pm Elaine- from Canadado they keep downtown roads closed like that even in the winter? great street shot, Sharon... and i like the quote, i'm sure remembering my dog that died, with all the pics i took of her! 20 May 2010 1:32pm JJ from Jersey City, United StatesGreat B&W work and depth, such a cool scene seeing people enjoying the street without the normal vehicle traffic 20 May 2010 1:35pm Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, FranceA lovely sunny day in the city, no cars allowed... very pleasant, like the mood here. 20 May 2010 4:07pm Mark Johnson from Rural Colorado, United Stateswow, amazing scene! That looks like a great place to walk around; interesting shops and interesting people everywhere! 20 May 2010 6:18pm k@ from Paris, FranceSo true, so many details we would never notice without the photos and i do agree about your answer to Mariana too, some places seems like never changing rivers, just the fishes wear different outfits ;) I like a lot this crowd knowing some people could recognize themselves or relatives, now, yesterday, tomorrow. The story of Time passing, fluently....... 20 May 2010 7:46pm john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesMarvelous monochrome. I love the Siskind quote; I've stolen it for my archive of quotes. Both sentences are true, but the first one articulates what I believe heart and soul. Thank you. 20 May 2010 7:48pm marc battault from clermont ferrand, Francethe ball of urban ants! beautiful street scene, Sharon! 20 May 2010 8:14pm Steve Rice from Olympia, United StatesIt seems like a film festival in progress. It's good to see a street open to just foot traffic. I don't like dodging cars all the time. Lovely B&W. 20 May 2010 9:27pm David from Detroit, United StatesThis is a classic urban street scene. Regarding your reply to Mariana: I thought the very same thing when I first saw this photo. 20 May 2010 9:51pm Polydactyle from Montreal, CanadaVery strong composition! Beautiful street with great "old style" signs. Great!! 20 May 2010 11:57pm Framed and Shot from Houston, United StatesClosed is a relative term. Cool shot. 21 May 2010 1:17am Stéphane Thémèze from PlateFormeRonde, United StatesThe signs look so super-sized compared to the crowd. But the latter is flowing without being to attracted. Guess is too early for the neon to catch and attract. I love the Orpheum sign. It brings me back to Memphis Tennessee in their concert Hall. We're getting the feel of the beat. Cheers Sharon 21 May 2010 3:21am rian from mobile, United Statesi do like it when they close up the streets like this and have stalls in place.. the mood's so festive.. very nice street shot.. :) 21 May 2010 3:27am larans from Lund, SwedenA perfect illustration to that qoute. The b&w processing gives it a sense of timelessness. 22 May 2010 10:43am Hiro from Kyoto, AfghanistanWe call it Hokosha Tengoku, 歩行者天国 in Japan. It means Pedestrian's Heaven (or Paradise). I wish I could visit there. 22 May 2010 11:08am Scott F. In B&W it is timeless. 30 May 2010 12:36am michele from Canadaso interesting to see this in black and white. recently i read that b/w abstracts things and i have to say this is true here. this is unmistakably Granville Street and yet in b/w it looks like it could be anywhere. in a good way. lovely time with the girl in the light colored tunic - there's so much activity here and yet my eye keeps coming back to her. 30 May 2010 6:27pm Pavan Kaul from Mumbai, IndiaAn image so wonderful, in every way, made so much more precious with the beautiful truth of the quote! 5 Jun 2010 5:48am Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesLooks like a very happening pedestrian friendly street! 10 Jun 2010 9:34pm |
