"But for a minute or two I did forget
myself and everything else.
I know I did.
For when I turned back I didn't know
where I was.
Until some birds rose up
from the gnarled trees.
And flew
in the direction I needed to be going."

A haunting image, yet how often are we all lost to some degree. Wonderful work.

A perfect title, yes, absolutely the joy of freedom in the skies.
So atmospheric with the foggy landscape, those wings punching the air as the birds catch thermals and sample the real joie de vivre.
Hauntingly beautiful

The birds, fog, water and trees; a perfect composition. Nature at its mysterious best.

Wonderful image of freedom! Oh to be able to fly!

Yes, stunning is the word that springs to my mind too. Great shot. I love the misty silhouettes of the trees.

Intriguing and dramatic. Excellent work. Love the Carver quote.

What a poetic composition... Great contrasts for this b&w image.
23 Nov 2008 10:05am
a very moody shot, the fog and the b&w are great
23 Nov 2008 11:26am
Nothing beyond the trees. All life is flying in this closed space.
23 Nov 2008 11:56am
wonderful dramatic capture, the title is so appropriate
23 Nov 2008 12:27pm
Very peculiar capture. Almost graphical composition in B&W.
23 Nov 2008 1:23pm
Very well done! Love the B&W treatment! You probably braved the cold or the early morning or bothto get this snap! It was totally worth it! love the quote!

I don't think I have ever seen an image quite like this, a misty background and gulls flying about. Wonderful shot, a great capture.
23 Nov 2008 1:41pm
un titre parfait même si la liberté c'est aussi voler dans la brume, parfois !
23 Nov 2008 1:55pm
Mysterious melancholy... such a unique atmosphere that one would hardly expect from a nature shot. Wonderful wonderful work!
23 Nov 2008 2:10pm
The mood...this would be perfect framed on the wall, especially for a bird watcher ;)
23 Nov 2008 2:35pm
Sunday freedom! I whish to be there, with them!
Like the double sense in your title :)

Wonderful photograph! Love the mood and the timelessness of the shot :)

Hi bluechameleon!! How are you? I look your style...is not changed! :d I'm back after 2 months...A mistery, a darkness, and the misty mood "flavour" are presents in this picture. See ya!!! Riccardo

Beautiful, peaceful image. I think the word "free" fits perfectly.

SWEET I really dig the fog and the feel of this shot. Although I think that much fog would depress me its nice to look at this as I look out at the sunshine of my window but the tones oh they are fantastic.
23 Nov 2008 8:18pm
i love their clear movement through the fog.

there's something about your photography, it's utter beauty, some inspire me to get better, and you do that too, but you also make me want to quit because i'll never be that good :)
23 Nov 2008 11:57pm
This is really fine work. The contrasts between darks and lights is especially dramatic.
23 Nov 2008 11:58pm
fabulous nature...what a great photo...and I've got Carver in my backpack...started re-reading Fires about a week ago...he's one of those writers that can put goose bumps on my skin...

Impressive use of verse and image together, once again.

It is a masterpiece, a beautiful B&W, a strong sensation to be present, for me it is 6 stars and a blow of heart. This photo and the title remind me in "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" de Richard Bach ...

Raymond Carver... Very good literary taste. And very well thought out...
