It's The Fabulous Commodore Ballroom! This venue has been around for as long as I can remember and is a place that holds many happy memories for me. Some of the greatest bands (ever) have played here over the years. Some of the highlights for me have been: Marianne Faithfull, Talking Heads, Simple Minds, Iggy Pop, The Church, Depeche Mode, The Cure, OMD, The Ramones, The Cramps and the list goes on and on...

Really nice capture, Sharon. Has a carefree feel about it. That structure looks like it would be a great place to see.

There's a sort of opposition in this capture, between the nonchalent position of the woman and the dynamic passing away of the bicycle.

Super shot, I love the carefree, freewheeling nature of the cyclist who seems to be lost in thought. Great list of bands too!
4 Apr 2009 5:43am
fabulous shot, yes! Full of life and the kind of street picture from Paris in the fifties
4 Apr 2009 5:59am
@10Fraction: Thank you so much! You have just made my day! Images from Paris in the fifties are my absolute favourite of all!!!

4 Apr 2009 7:25am
@k@: Yes so many memories indeed...music echoes whenever I pass-by :) A lovely Sunday (and Saturday, as it is here) to you too my friend :)**
SUperb street shot, love the blurry cyclist in the frame, excellent work Sharon!

I like subjects (?) popping into the frame. To my opinion, the real subject is the door, with a nice graphic, assorted to the wall and the bicycle (same curves and shapes).
She really has a face of a Commodore on her ship ;);)

oh yes ! absolutely fabulous ! I like the composition and the blurry cyclist passing in front of your camera
4 Apr 2009 9:30am
Wow, quite a line up they had at that place. And indeed, not only the name, also the capture is fabulous. Great timing :)

Impressive candid Blue, love the way this lady seems to be holding on to a talisman, a charm, anecklace? as if for protection ;)
4 Apr 2009 11:53am
Nice composition and beautiful motion on the bicycle.
4 Apr 2009 12:33pm
A great place place then (all my favorite groups !) :-) I love these tiny places, shows are really different here, I remember David Bowie's gig at La Cigale (we were les than 500 people, what a rendez-vous !) ;-)
4 Apr 2009 12:58pm
@zOOm: Yes, smaller venues are my favourite as well. Less than 500 for David Bowie? I would have been in heaven! I saw him at a venue of 1200 (the "Earthling" tour) and I was up against the stage, I touched his foot at one point during "Life On Mars"...silly as it may sound, that was an amazing moment :)
Just the right moment here, great picture, your blog is a joy for the eye, anf than you so much visiting mine.
Have a great weekend.

What is truly fabulous is being on a bicycle!! Love the slight blur of the rider against that wonderful background.
4 Apr 2009 2:55pm
Oh, yes, this place has seen it all! And the lady passing by, I think right now she`s feeling fabulous!

Great title! The B&W tones and clarity are fabulous. The whole retro feel including the bike... fabulous. THe woman... fabulous. I think only her sunglasses give away the time. Really nice.

Buckethead has played there too! :) This is such a piece of musical history. This is such a good street capture of it. The entire image say's so much. Very nice work.

It could be taken in a different decade, but in reality it's just a hipster riding a hipster bike in front of a rock club. Which is great too.
The Commodore in Vancouver is indeed legendary...I'd heard of it way down here in Texas.
