Stunning bc! The fog is mesmerising! The last few days here have been very foggy and I couldn't even see the sea it was that think! Super 'mood setting' image!

This is such a lovely shot!
Great tones and composition
I love the mood :)

Love the division of space and the cold moody quality of it. Almost looks cozy.

Lovely composition, and a perfect scene to complement the words. I think you should send this to Neil - I'm sure he would love it!

First I saw black against white, then I touch your fog with my eyes and saw so much more ! I love that, a multi-layers, multi-dephts photo, the boats appearing & vanishing, the benches as if fallen apart, and the lonely silhouette leaving quietly in distance... Ah, your stories....... Tell me more, tell me more (I adore :)

"Early mornin' in the fog thick as hasty puddin' / That ol' mailbox is a ways away that ol' road keeps a washin'" (Malcolm Holcombe)
What a minimalistic treasure, Sharon! The melancholy is overwhelming. I love this composition. This beauty is a favourite of mine. Once more I'm running out of words ... damn beautiful! All the best & safe travels, Fritsch.

Oh, there is another lonely man... Is he really lonely, or not so lonely ?
17 Aug 2009 7:06am
Just the shapes and the watercolor-like background, simple and lovely!
17 Aug 2009 7:35am
Nice atmosphere, perfect in bw. Love all the empty benches and the person walking away.
17 Aug 2009 7:58am
I don't like it.
I love it!
Great work - my sort of framing and the tone I've tried to replicate on the rare days I get down tot the foggy uk coast...

a photograph which I shall have liked to take ( google's translate !!!)

wonderful shot, and brilliant colour tone! cheers
17 Aug 2009 9:17am
Lovely 'ghostly' shapes beyond...the lonely figure on this desolate morning...vacant benches, a heavy heart... love this flawless composition that says so much:)
17 Aug 2009 9:53am
This is a really nice composititon! The feeling of loneliness is extremely well made. This is excellent work!!
17 Aug 2009 11:06am
A super effort Sharon! There is definitely something surreal in this picture. Almost like an old "Twilight Zone" episode..... ;-)
17 Aug 2009 12:04pm
Wonderful mood you've captured/created. It somehow feels both lonely...and very peaceful. Excellent!
17 Aug 2009 12:06pm
le fog du bout du monde...!!! toujours de splendide composition magnifiquement traitées ^^
17 Aug 2009 12:14pm
@BonAngle: It is. Completely. Are you seeing something else?
once more : brilliant the way you composed this shOT;;;
17 Aug 2009 1:32pm
Love that guy with the umbrella and the barely visible sailboat at rest. At first glance, I wondered who arranged the pianos outdoors!
17 Aug 2009 2:29pm
Beautiful, very good frame and light ! And so sad..
17 Aug 2009 2:57pm
Superb monochrome. Outstanding composition. I love both the person with the umbrella and the sailboat in the fog. The fog which barely reveals the trees in the background creates a strong mystical feel which definitely is my cup of tea.

Every time i pass by, can't write a comment immediately... This shot overwhelmed me like many others here. Strong feeling of melancholy, but serenity too, like those moments of introspection that we wouldn't share with anybody... Not permanent, just a way to breath. No despair at all - there's always a boat to escape your loneliness.

@Aurore: You are so sweet and kind...thank you :)
a very nice and mysterious picture. Hope this was not this summer, otherwise you should relocate :-)
17 Aug 2009 4:37pm
@10Fraction: Thank you :) Actually this was taken about a week and a half ago, so yes, it was this summer. But it was welcome after the very hot weather (near 40 degrees celsius) we had been having. Of course now the rain/fog is gone and we are heating up again :/
beautiful composition and misty mood ! the passerby with the umbrella adds alot to your image ! I love it !
17 Aug 2009 5:12pm
You cannot beat those misty ocean-side shots for elegant shots. This is beautiful.
17 Aug 2009 6:06pm
Love the shot...full of loneliness and emptiness. I experienced the most fog ever when I visited Maine this year and I liked it ;0)
17 Aug 2009 6:42pm
Transfers a sense of melancholy, no?
I love photos that can effect the mood, and this one surely does.
Great!
17 Aug 2009 7:50pm
The dark stone, the boat and trees barely seen and of course the person all combine to work their magic. Actually, it's your magic.
17 Aug 2009 10:10pm
I love it, you have captured the feeling of a foggy day beautifully.
18 Aug 2009 12:37am
Another shot with great mood... the fog gives it a nice subdued/quiet feel. nice
18 Aug 2009 2:19am
Really nice, Sharon. So simple...so beautiful.
18 Aug 2009 4:18am
Excellents dégradés qui restituent bien la nappe de brouillard au second plan.
18 Aug 2009 5:30am
very good composition and b/w, I like the feeling of loneliness.
18 Aug 2009 5:31am
A beautiful photo enhanced by perspective and toning!
18 Aug 2009 9:12am
beautiful mood - like a preparation for the incoming fall...
18 Aug 2009 9:34am
what a haunting picture, Sharon!! so lonely, she looks like the last woman on earth, and to top it off IT'S RAINING lol great shot!!!
18 Aug 2009 10:34am
Strikes a strong pathos --like most of your work. Visually enticing imagery.
18 Aug 2009 5:52pm
The created mood and composition are superb. Great view point for this shot, really like the background fog along with the empty benches. Excellent work Sharon!
19 Aug 2009 12:46am
Nice composition with the woman going away from the benches.
19 Aug 2009 4:30am
i live in the fog more than 6 months a year. i have to tell myself it is beautiful, offering mood and character to many scenes. it is a stretch though to see it that way when often it simply seems infinitely gray and flat. rain and umbrellas help a lot :) they bring the human element and endlessly expand the story. i love the smallness of the elements in this image. it harmonizes well with the neil young lyrics.
19 Aug 2009 4:52am
Somebody with an umbrella. . . . I can't not like this shot!
19 Aug 2009 4:58am
One can feel the stillness and calm here
19 Aug 2009 6:38am
Soberbia composicion, con esos solitarios bancos y esa persona con paraguas en mano, un sentimiento de soledad.
Saludos.
19 Aug 2009 7:53am
So much emotion and feeling wrapped up in one shot. It's poignant and beautiful - very well done. Five stars.
19 Aug 2009 10:24am
Always surprises me how quickly and completely a fog can change a place no matter how well-known it is to us. The whole perception changes once the points of reference are gone.
19 Aug 2009 1:46pm
The more I look into it, not only the more amazing details I'm delighted to discover but the more I find myself being drawn into and captivated by an enchanting (romantic) mood of loneliness... Magic... Such beautiful composition and tonal range! Another Sharon's classic!:-)
20 Aug 2009 12:44am
Coucou from Montreal ! Nice shot Sharon ! I like it :)
20 Aug 2009 1:47am
Saw you've got 75 comments already and I said to myself: "Holy cow! How will I respond to 75 comments?" so I figure one more will not make any difference at this point... :-)
I like it! A little sad but romantic mood in it...misty beauty! :-)
20 Aug 2009 2:14am
this scene looks perfect in b&w.. beautiful shot! :)
20 Aug 2009 2:25am
Lovely composition here! The bench and the figure in the horizon just match right for the theme here =]
20 Aug 2009 4:43pm
very soft and beautiful light! i do love fog -- especially in photos such as this! -- however i am happy to be in NYC with no fog, just SUN!! ;) sorry -- but back to you wonderful photo -- a lovely scene, i am sure those benches make great thinking and viewing spaces!! bravo!
20 Aug 2009 7:25pm
A really neat moody photograph with such textural B&W feel and romantic feel. Spleenetic!
25 Aug 2009 1:54am
I cannot express enough about how much I love this shot. WOW! It has a lot of ambience.
