Great job! Black and White is perfect. Plus the reflection from the water.
4 Sep 2009 8:04am
great perspective ! I love the reflection in the puddle and the solitary silhouette in background, great mood !
4 Sep 2009 8:10am
I agree: imagination made the world! I like how the reflections takes our attention despite the rest of the photograme :)
4 Sep 2009 8:11am
great image. One thing you almost consistently manage to do to me is make me realise that these kind of shots CAN work magic. I usually avoided thinking about taking shots that fit into the 'no-faces/buildings/water/scenery' categories because I believed that novelty or feeling or beauty or interest are not present in these - but you, and mostly only you, prove me wrong time and time again....
I look at the world differently remembering some of your images...

Such a great perpective : love the generous puddle and the beautiful oily blacks of yours - many details in the backdrop too, delicious*

the reflection is very cool, it's a piece of spotlight in the darkness of the "floor".
I'm seting up a new blog, the previous one won't be used anymore.

"Tear drops on the city Bad Scooter searching for his groove / Seem like the whole world walking pretty and you can't find the room to move / Well everybody better move over, that's all / I'm running on the bad side And I got my back to the wall" (Bruce Springsteen)
What a great city serenade, Sharon. Looking down to see what's above. A perspective that I love & your tones & lights I adore. Just brilliant! All the best & safe travels, Fritsch.

a great perspective which takes our glance from the reflection in the puddle until the person at the end of the alley. And a great B&W... as always...
4 Sep 2009 1:35pm
The back alleys of big cities are the most generous theatres for allegories. We tend to seach for light and you found it wrapped in a puddle. Let's follow the light trail...
4 Sep 2009 1:59pm
the reflections open up a whole new direction...not just forwards and backwards, but downwards as well...through the mirror. wonder what lies behind it :)
4 Sep 2009 3:00pm
Reflecting the gritty underbelly. best...jerry

Beautifully shot & processed Sharon, just love those reflections.
4 Sep 2009 3:52pm
Wooo, you need to be careful walking into an alley like this, Sharon. Looks pretty isolated and scary to me...at least walk with a friend, a male friend that is, unless your female friend is a karate black belt. :-)

Vancouver alleys have such character. at least the downtown ones do. I even like where you put your watermark. small detail but it doesnt distract from the photo like the can sometimes.

Tremendous reflective shot, yet the darks are so rich and velvety.
6 Sep 2009 7:31pm
A reminder that some situations are more difficult to transcend that others . . but it is all a question of inner momentum. Some great Comments to go with your challenging image here. Posting it its best.
6 Sep 2009 7:46pm
I saw the thumbnail in the favorites section, but did not know it was yours, Sharon. I was just immediately drawn to the light, reflection, and textures. You enjoy what is left of the weekend. Looking forward to your next shot.

8 Sep 2009 3:42am
I find service alleys an interesting place for photography. It shows you the true nature of the city, the ugly, and the unseen. But at times, interesting patterns emerges from dumpsters and water puddles. Nice shot.
8 Sep 2009 4:58pm
The standing water with the reflection is what captivates me in this one.
