I'm loving these dark and sober 'street shots" of yours.
This has an especially nice extra touch with that small puddle reflection !!

very nice street shot, angle, and shadows all combined together. Looks so cold there, which i like!

Wonderful shot, I really enjoy seeing that unique look that Holga offers. Do you process your own black and white film??? My Uncle has been offering me to take all his black and white photo processing hardware and i've got no room at all.

@Brian Chen: Thank you Brian. No, I have the same problem as you do, lack of space, and also lack of time. I take my film in to be processed and printed as my scanner cannot scan negatives.
There iis a calm in the picture- despite the trafic and the big town- that I like. hornby street- my association goes to the author: "It seems to me now that the plain state of being human is dramatic enough for anyone; you don't need to be a heroin addict or a performance poet to experience extremity. You just have to love someone."

@larans: Thank you so much for your kind words, and I do love that quote :)
Beautiful perspective and walking people against the light.

I gradually understand why you use a holga. This scene meets holga's taste, especially in BW.
20 Dec 2009 8:04am
I learn the Holga beauties within your work, Sharon, and that's a cool discovery. I enjoy a lot the puddle and its trees reflections in the left lower part of your image, it draws my eyes from down earth/ground up to the street and sky. Feel like a pigeon bathing or drinking in that puddle before flying over the passers-by, direction the bright white* You have a very nice sunday, my dear ~

@k@: Thank you Karine, dear. This photo actually escaped through the flood gates last night. I've been so busy with all the festivities of the season I was not paying attention of my blog. I am pleased you like it, and the shots with the Holga are some of my favourites. You have a nice Sunday too :)
Shocking and perfectly crafted, with a perfect process.
A greeting

B&W with your Holga is delightful ! I love the long shadows !

South wind the cold through this image. I like the subtility with which the forms of the trees are drawn.
Warm greetings

Love the harsh light...and especially how you captured the intimacy of two people walking.

Where is the snow these days in your homeland? ... I'm going build now a snowman, -15 degrees here in gemany *arghhhhh*
20 Dec 2009 12:45pm
@Nicki: Ah! I need to come to your country Nicki! All I have of the snow are memories and photos of last winter...*sigh*
So pretty. There is no walking going on here today. In the teens with over 2 feet of snow on the ground. We all will be hopping around here ;0)

@Tracey: Thanks Tracey. Well...that seems like my kind of day :)
I was tempted yesterday while shopping for Christmas to buy a Holga set... it really renders specific mood to shots.
It seems to be as cold as in Paris. Walkers... walk fast at this time of year. :-)
20 Dec 2009 1:27pm
@zOOm: Thanks Florence! Maybe even jog a little :)
Nice rich blacks in this. The shadows and reflection in the puddle give this a sense of drama.

You & Lars made me want to browse back into Hornby quotes. I found this very good link, in case you don't know it yet. I'll put one tomorrow under my pic, so I have to thank you here, my dear. Kiss*

"Walking down Main Street / Getting to know the concrete / Looking for a purpose from a neon sign / I would meet you anywhere / The western sun meets the air / We'll hit the road, never looking behind" (Son Volt)
Following your shadows is one of my favourite things to do everytime I stop by here. I love this atmosphere & looking into the sun through your eyes on this very cold day over here. Great photograph, Sharon! All the best & safe travels, Fritsch.

WOW! I love the quote and it goes so whel with your photograph. Great this has with the puddle, reflections and shadows.

I like the feel of the people walking in this image - they don't seem to be in a hurry, their heads are more up and they seem to be at peace! Very nice work and light on this image! A very thoughtful quote also! Time for some good new years resolutions!
21 Dec 2009 4:22am
an excellent capture of winter lighting -- bright but frail at the same time. beautiful mood -- as if they are walking down memory lane!
21 Dec 2009 2:26pm
A superb image by any measure. A work of vision, skill and beauty.
22 Dec 2009 12:35am
Great photo. I love how it looks a little stretched. Also, great quote.
28 Dec 2009 8:08pm
low end photography at its best!
the very hard contrasts and the blurry ambiance work well together.
29 Dec 2009 12:00pm
I really like this one. The glow of the backlighting and the flare around the branches creates a distinct mood.
