I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the
bone structure in the landscape, the
loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter.
Something waits beneath it--
the whole story doesn't show.

The little rim of light at waters edge draws our eye through the figures. Kind of a Wyeth[ie] figure himself. best...jerry

A compelling composition and dramatic structure and tones.
It well matches the Wyeth poem...especially if you crop the photo, as I did accidentally while scrolling,
and the section containing the walkers is not included.
This person looks deep deep in thought. Lovely ambiance.

Misterious image that fits very well with this dark poem. Strong impact :)
18 Jan 2010 7:00am
Someone else used that same quote on their images today, but your images couldn't be more different. Both excellent for different reasons. Even with the couple walking further down the beach, yours makes me feel the loneliness of winter.

Amazing shot~~~so much feeling and thought!!!
18 Jan 2010 7:14am
Beautifully processed image with lovely tones that match the poem

18 Jan 2010 8:45am
Very well seen and executed. Congratulations.
A greeting!

It makes an impression. It transmits certain sensation to me of solitude. Very good Black and white.
Warm greetings

What a strong image, Sharon ! That person against the trunk is so powerful, inhabited with darkness, the title enhances beautifully the feeling, love the couple passing by (Life) and the white edging of the waves & foam like the frontier between Dark & Light territories... An image to look at taking our time, deserves it, asks for it. Rare one*
18 Jan 2010 9:45am
you must know alot of people with black trench coats, unless that's just a downtown way of dressing :) very ingmar bergman, this shot, i like it
18 Jan 2010 10:26am
A perfect match between the image and the poem! Well done.
18 Jan 2010 11:31am
Wonderful image. Strong couple on shore with mysterious gentleman in foreground. Beautiful poem as well.
18 Jan 2010 11:48am
A very powerful and introspective shot Sharon! It matches well with the words by Andrew Wyeth. Well done! ;-)
18 Jan 2010 12:48pm
A great combination of poem and image. I see a theme between yesterday's and today picture - a lone man.
18 Jan 2010 12:59pm
nice lines leading, a bit of intrigue - the couple / the individual, a curious image that the mind could play with for ages. Nice use of the negative space too. nice indeed.

Ton image en N&B est superbe ! Bon après midi.

I like the thoughtful man and the wolking couple, great compo.
18 Jan 2010 2:58pm
nice title... brings a certain mood to the shot.
18 Jan 2010 3:14pm
A very moving title and image, the beach scene seems to be a poignant reminder for the person. An image with drama..!
18 Jan 2010 3:32pm
Such a charming scenery yet so filled with an air of gloom... amazing capture of the scene to tell the sad story!
It's sad but beautifully poetic! What a fine work of art Sharon!
18 Jan 2010 3:41pm
amazing composition...love the waters edge, how it leads you from the right of the photo all the way back...the juxtaposition of the couple and the lone man is very strong symbolism, at least for me...the way the log the man is leaning on jets into the image is just so nice, such a strong line...
I like Wyeth's choice of words, 'bone structure' for winter...the last few years i've developed a new appreciation for and love of winters sleeping trees...not dead, but asleep, regenerating, waiting on the spring...

The man stands there and stare at the sea like a stone. I wonder what goes on in his head. Nice shot.
18 Jan 2010 7:00pm
Beautiful image and poem. I wonder what the man standing there are thinking of?
18 Jan 2010 7:11pm
Great thoughts from Wyeth. I like this photo.

Somber but so beautiful. Those rich tones are so pleasing.

feeling separated from the world. lovely image.
19 Jan 2010 12:47am
Whoooo - there seems to be a border between the bright and darker areas. And thats exactly the taste I like. Fine ^^
19 Jan 2010 12:53am
Excellent title for this perfect composition. 5 stars my friend!!!!
19 Jan 2010 1:26am
well, i prefer winter because there's no crowd to ruin your shot.. :D love the mood in this capture of yours, nice work.. :)
19 Jan 2010 1:45am
For some strange reason we like to stare at the sea, I always feel that its calling me. Like Elaine, Ingmar Bergman sprung to mind, a reminder of loneliness.
19 Jan 2010 3:00am
I love how in all your photos, it almost seems as if there's a story begging to be told.
19 Jan 2010 5:31am
This is a real strong story. The poem and the picture makes together a very strong message. But on the other hand there are many possibilities to make other interpretation- it´s a good example of an "open" image, pictures you can go back to and always find something new to see or think. A real great picture!
19 Jan 2010 6:07am
This is such a strong and powerful shot, but also sad - full of emotion. You have captured this beautifully.
19 Jan 2010 6:26am
wow sharon, i like this kind of pondering moment, exceptional moody shot!
19 Jan 2010 7:28am
He really seems fascinated, hypnotized, by the sea, or horizon or both. Earth/sea limits are so attractive. They dive you into thougths, dreams, expectations, poetry. Whatever. They always lead you beyond. A great shot Sharon, of a universal and shared comtemplation.
19 Jan 2010 1:53pm
A beautiful composition, a dark tonality and a dramatic atmosphere make this shot very strong and touching.
19 Jan 2010 2:00pm
everyone needs a place for quiet contemplation.
the bed too soft, the toilet is too hard. the beach is just right.
your photo, bc, evokes a mood, perhaps a distant memory...
19 Jan 2010 3:40pm
Such a powerful photography filled with meaning and interpretation. Lonliness perhaps, contentment, the sadness of loss, or simply revelling in the glorious view.
19 Jan 2010 4:05pm
A very melancholic shot, that let us free to interpret the history of this lone man... Nice work.
19 Jan 2010 4:21pm
Une photo qui n'encourage pas la joie de vivre !!!!
La solitude est vraiment dure à vivre !!
19 Jan 2010 6:08pm
Heavy duty quote, Heavy tone picture pulled back by the glow of light radiating from the water. Beautifully done
20 Jan 2010 11:39am
Wonderful mood you've captured/created. Great eye!!
20 Jan 2010 1:24pm
A lot of contrast in this picture ... Light and darkness, loneliness and torque, a strong atmosphere and a beautiful text!
20 Jan 2010 2:14pm
The atmosphere of the verse and the image combine to have such a melancholy vibe.......
20 Jan 2010 2:44pm
see what i mean? a mysterious drama playing out between the words and the image. perfectly matched!
xo

toujours des compos qui remues l esprit,^^superbe^^
20 Jan 2010 5:00pm
eventhough you often have people in your shots -- they are 'lonely', isolated, excommunicated... i think in a way, each of us live in these moments -- each man, an island, at least within our thoughts...! gorgeous and sentimental work as always Sharon!! i hope 2010 continues to be engaging and productive -- all the best to you!!! :) xxx
20 Jan 2010 5:15pm
A picture for contemplation! Marvellous gloomy tones and a wonderful composition.
20 Jan 2010 8:27pm
Wonderfully composed and processed with great sense of scale. I like the emotions portrayed and the wonderful tone and words!
21 Jan 2010 10:17am
I read the title but keep seeing ballad of a dead dream. Could have been that too or it is just me.
A nice poetic feel and some stories to build on your beautiful photograph.
Have a Blessed day Sharon.

"And you say, "Oh my God, Am I here all alone?" (Bob Dylan)
What a brilliant composition, Sharon. A meditation about the wide open space & loneliness with your tones that never fail to blow my mind. A great photograph! All the best & safe travels, Fritsch.

Strange how powerful a Title can be . . I feel I can see a missing man . .
21 Jan 2010 7:19pm
This mysterious image made me think I was looking at a still from a movie.
21 Jan 2010 7:51pm
You are dead on with this title, i can see how it fits right away. Well done!
25 Jan 2010 3:46am
Nice one. I like the barely visible details in the dark area, and the two figures derparting add a sense of sadness.
