What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.

22 Jan 2010 7:03am
Fantastic...an absolutely beautiful and great composition
22 Jan 2010 7:18am
One of my fav (again !) at your place, Sharon : it's just a masterpiece in the compo as much as in the mood, that reminds me movies from the 30's by Cooper & Schoedsack (those who shot the very first King Kong but also documentaries about a little indian, or "The most dangerous game", in a lost island). Is it really Vancouver ? Looks like far East. Really stupendous and moving. I'm beginning my tour on Am3 but sure one of my fav photo of the day if not the one for all the human feelings it offers. Brava & Grazie*

We may feel small in the vastness of nature but also in the magnitude of the work of others ...
22 Jan 2010 9:05am
Wow!
Amazing photography. The solitude of the individual, the steep nature, the skillful and black and white composition a pure one. Everything is brilliant Warm greetings
22 Jan 2010 9:10am
One always feels small in the greatness of nature. I just love the tree on the top. Half expected a small cabin too ;-)
22 Jan 2010 9:11am
Il fait tout petit l'homme sur ta photo ! Bonne journée.

This image is one that holds the viewers attention; causing one to become absorbed in the scene. Very well done.
22 Jan 2010 10:23am
An excellent photo- with balance and harmony and a text that makes you start thinking a lot. The composition is great, the triangle formed by the man, the tree and the birds gives an extra dimension to the picture. I love that tree and the fog descended over the rock.
22 Jan 2010 10:27am
This shot has it all..... a brilliant atmospheric image, 5 stars !
22 Jan 2010 10:39am

22 Jan 2010 1:19pm
@Polydactyle: Thanks David. Hmmm...well I guess it wouldn't hurt to try. So far they have not liked anything I have submitted. It makes me frustrated and determined at the same time, I think ;-)
how lucky we are to have such a wonderful landscape in this country of ours. rugged, imposing. fabulous image.
22 Jan 2010 1:20pm
What a wonderful perspective. You can really feel the contrast.
22 Jan 2010 1:29pm
The addition of the lone figure just makes this perfect. Well captured.
22 Jan 2010 1:30pm
A great spot and i like the human presence who gives a scale to the rock. A beautiful moment of loneliness and meditation...
22 Jan 2010 1:40pm
swank location! where is it? B.C.? Like the lone figure.
22 Jan 2010 2:25pm
Mother nature vast and beautiful, mankind contemplative and insignificant, just how I like things. A wonderful composition that works so well. And the quote is simply perfect.
22 Jan 2010 2:26pm
@6ft5: Thanks Göran...this is in Vancouver, along the seawall.
It feels like a floating moment and the fog is welcome in adding an extra layer to that feel.
In between peace and a moving thought.
Good Friday to You Sharon.

22 Jan 2010 4:28pm
Wonderfoul photograph, I love this small silhouette that stands out on this foggy horizon and whose facing a natural Goliath. There is something mystical about it...
22 Jan 2010 4:33pm
This lonely figure seems to be searching his soul (fitting your quote perfectly) I llike the way the background fades to nothing, worlds end!

Wow ! impressive composition in light saturated unreal ... Birds on the water almost reassure us ! Wonderful !
22 Jan 2010 6:51pm
When I saw your title, these words from Paul Simon immediately came to mind:
"When you're weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all"
and I think they fit this magnificent shot as well. Beautifully done, Sharon - this really is excellent.
22 Jan 2010 7:42pm

23 Jan 2010 1:20am
Powerful image Sharon, your compositions are unique to your wonderful style of photography. Don't change your feelings and style of photography to suite others opinions. It's fine to listen to advice and recommendations especially on technical issues and / or corrections to your images. However, you are a very creative photographer and you have continued to grow and improve as witnessed by your images. Keep up the great work as I'm sure you will.

@John Maslowski: Thanks so much John. Funny you brought this up, because lately it's been somewhat of a struggle for me and it's left me questioning... I appreciate you words, they could not have come at a better time...thank you :)

23 Jan 2010 6:38am
Great sensibility in front of that! Great b/w and composition. I like the vertical forms that suggest very much!
23 Jan 2010 7:33am
What an amazing capture, both technically and photographically!!! The forms, tone, light, contrast, composition, and all the atmosphere, drama, emotions these elements help intensifying... and combined with the perfect title and words of wisdom... What can I say? Just another masterpiece Sharon!
23 Jan 2010 7:54am
@hugo poon: Thanks so much Hugo...appreciated :)
Nice capture and amazing proportion/scale. The best part is how the person's head is down, bowing down to the giant.
23 Jan 2010 9:41am
excellent juxtaposition of man vs nature. fine shot!
23 Jan 2010 4:58pm
marvelous solitude, grandeur, nature...also great tone and crop...
23 Jan 2010 5:07pm
It was T.S Eliot who said something like ''It is only in the world of objects that we have time and space and selves. ''
It sort of nicely fits your amazing image Sharon.

@Richard Trim(T): Such a great quote...thank you :)
the composition of the man on the rock and the tree on the larger is FANASTIC! Did you find the scene this way? Love the quote and title. Nice work!
23 Jan 2010 7:26pm
@Yvonne: Thanks so much Yvonne. Yes, I came upon this scene while walking...just as it is.
Awesome capture... excellent mood and composition. Makes me wonder what the person is about to do... jump in, or just stand there looking at the nice view. The latter probably the safest.
24 Jan 2010 2:10am
fantastic photo .... he looks like he's contemplating something sinster
24 Jan 2010 4:40am

"Lost all the border between the future and the past / One fading slowly, the other coming up fast" (Dave Alvin)
What a brilliant meditation, what a superb post. Getting lost in your thoughts & pictures is my favourite healing when I'm feeling small. Thanks for that & your great photography, Sharon! All the best & safe travels, Fritsch.
24 Jan 2010 3:38pm

Wow I really love the contrast here. The water reflection, lighting all very awesome. Thank you for sharing. I hope you had a great weekend.
25 Jan 2010 3:10am
This is a great shot, love the framing, the light and the small guy across from the big rock. It does indeed make you feel small, something we all need reminding of sometime. Nice work.
25 Jan 2010 3:27am
This is such a breath taking shot! You always do so well to make your mark with each piece. It really makes me think when I look at these.
Sorry I haven't visited in awhile, been swamped at work... who knew it would be so exhausting =P
Its great to see your new pieces.
25 Jan 2010 3:45am
@Brian Chen: Thanks so much Brian. Hey, no worries! I too am swamped and I'll be doing 6 days a week for the next month, so my time will surely be limited as well :/
I like this a lot. The way the horizon blends is very cool to me. But the guy and that tree on top of the rock with him looking down...that's even more cool.
25 Jan 2010 3:49am
I like the compo with the lonely man and the giant rock.
25 Jan 2010 3:24pm
Indeed, an image all about scale. It is good to confront this kind of contrast occasionally so we more rightly know our place !
25 Jan 2010 8:01pm
Wow so incredible that life can survive even on that tiny rock island! Amazing shot.
25 Jan 2010 8:07pm
Fantastic juxtaposition of the elements, with great spacing between them. The human presence is important and effectively makes the shot.
25 Jan 2010 9:19pm
Love the sense of scale...beautiful work, Sharon. Much to learn from you...
26 Jan 2010 8:41pm
A very moody capture, Sharon. It's really like three separate scenes in one. Definitely an eye catching image.
27 Jan 2010 1:37am
i just love the scaling within the image. it has a wonderful flow from bottom to top and left to right and around again. 1x....i agree. it is worthy :)
28 Jan 2010 2:04pm
