great lighting, shadows. I find the solitude intriguing here.

I like very much the composition: the shadow of the tree and the old man, not yet a shadow...
1 Feb 2010 6:27am
The lovely quote gives special poignancy to this lonely and beautiful image !!
1 Feb 2010 6:28am
Along with the quote, Sharon, there is melancholy in this image for me. It has its own bittersweet beauty.
1 Feb 2010 7:52am
this one is a really good photo. it shows us a lonely and thinking old man. but, the sun is shining above him. that's the great feeling in our world. good work, good!

Memories time! Great light/shadow play here.
1 Feb 2010 8:11am
My grandmother outlived my grandfather with 30 years and she never remarried or something. Now as a grownup I realize that she must have loved him deeply. Beautiful image with the quote you have chosen.
1 Feb 2010 8:13am
His lost love is still here within the super tree's shadow. Love that quote, the more we're getting old (each day) the more we experiment this and that is damn much, indeed. Thanks for both light & shadows you share here... Have a very nice week, dear Sharon ~

Beautiful composition! I like the shadow of the tree against the house!
1 Feb 2010 8:40am
The projected shades are fantastic, the human figure equips with a special dimension to the photography.
Warm greetings

What I really like about this shot are the shadows. They really help to balance the frame.

A wonderful whimsical atmosphere you have created Sharon! Full of hope and sunshine, yet lonely and longing for things that have past! Well done! ;-)

a photo that conveys a powerful message. the mood just captures the viewer and makes me just wanna stare at it. excellent work sharon!
1 Feb 2010 2:28pm
Love the play with the shadows! Excellent. They add some mystique and drama which is great. I can relate to the feeling of being haunted or snuck up on by the past. Like a Roald Dahl mystery.

Composición bella, imagen con una iluminación fantástica

"Come gather 'round friends / And I'll tell you a tale / Of when the red iron pits ran plenty / But the cardboard filled windows / And old men on the benches / Tell you now that the whole town is empty" (Bob Dylan)
What an amazing play of light & shadows. Remaining or resting in the sun. It's getting colder round here & I#m glad to have your beauties to warm me up. Great composition, Sharon! All the best & safe travels, Fritsch.

You really are the master at bringing out the contrast in these bw shots - and ending up with such a dramatic finish to the images. This one really touches me.
1 Feb 2010 6:46pm
Beautiful and touching quote. I love te reflective mood and the shadows in this. Very nicely done.
1 Feb 2010 7:13pm

We remain all one way or another in people's memories ... This will remain in my head ...
1 Feb 2010 9:43pm
A very beautiful but very sad image. Love those shadows.
1 Feb 2010 11:14pm
Remains on what? ^^ - The shadowsphere rules this capture, a impressive moment!
2 Feb 2010 1:05am
Nice composition and good framing by those tree shadows.
2 Feb 2010 1:29am
Everything works in this photo. The shadows, the glow of the bright light on the subject, the composition, the leading lines and the swirl of the trees that bring the eye back to the man. I like how you "break the rule" of leading space, having him gaze out of the frame from the short side. That makes us think that he is confronting something-- a memory-- just out of reach. Very nice.
2 Feb 2010 1:39am
Love the shadow of the tree while he sits in the bright light. Usually old partners pass away within a year of each other.
2 Feb 2010 2:56am
Compelling and a great verse to go with it. Wonderful!
2 Feb 2010 3:31am
Wow, that verse takes me into some deep thoughts for a moment - many different angles to take - the image goes perfectly with this verse! Great work and thanks for the kind words! Have a great week and stay warm!!
2 Feb 2010 5:07am
A nice quiet for this beautiful B / W! pleasing in His light!
2 Feb 2010 7:26am
There's a wall in the Parc Emmanuel Liais in Cherbourg where people like to sit on the benches. I wonder if I can take a similar shot one day. It is so nicely composed. I love that tree shadow!
2 Feb 2010 10:21am
It's very poetic scene. A drama will begin from this scene...
2 Feb 2010 11:07am
i like the mood and shadows ..... a rather lonely scene ...
2 Feb 2010 1:25pm
a beautiful game between shadow and light...and a super title ! great composition
2 Feb 2010 1:32pm
the picture on it's own, the title on it's own, the quote on it's own - all good. BUT together an amazing package. The photo has great light and framing. An amazing composition!
2 Feb 2010 2:30pm
What a "strong" photo and story. I like the great contrast, even though it looks like the white has "burned out", it doesn´t matter as it strengthen the story.
2 Feb 2010 9:07pm
wonderful Sharon, those shadows are of another world altogether
2 Feb 2010 10:56pm
i do feel the loneliness of this scene you captured.. wonderful capture.. :)
3 Feb 2010 1:01am
I like to observe the elderly as they sit contemplating. The shadows are really nice here.
3 Feb 2010 2:58am
I'm not going to say what this photo says to me, but it's very dark. Sometimes the best photos say what one cannot or does not want to say or even think.
3 Feb 2010 4:51am
An image of rare beauty, power and depth, compelling the viewer to share the man's thoughts and fathom his lonely existence! The words are haunting and so profound! Fabulous work!!!
3 Feb 2010 6:41am
i like this street shot. the shadows of the trees really stand out !
3 Feb 2010 4:44pm
Like a nice momentary solitary time in the sun. And space for company. The shadow fills the frame and gives depth real nicely.
Cheers Sharon.
3 Feb 2010 10:10pm
This brings all sorts of emotions out. Your quote emphasises old age and surviving, and that is a strong feeling evoked.
4 Feb 2010 2:51pm
Me and my shadow...love the solitary figure and the barest hint of the actual tree, with the big bold shadow of it. Well done, Sharon.
4 Feb 2010 3:04pm
Great quote and even more heartstrings-pulling image. Love this!
