I like this gentleman's body language.
Is he looking in the book shop window? Or does he, too, see reflections ? ;-)

interesting perspective in this street photo of ordinary life

A book proposes the culture and the escape towards the knowledge. I like this interested glance.

great street scene, with a great character shot included within it

Wonderful candid street shot Sharon! The man in the scene is obviously a reader...... ;-)

I love this shot. The man and his gesture is perfect. All the textures and reflections around him, and the weathered sign in front. Excellent.

Love how the old man's posture seems to add to the story!
Great PJ!

intense and powerful . . . beautifully executed.

Wonderful street scene, the gentleman's stance and look in the window makes me wonder is he looking for someone he know sin there, or perhaps he is considering whether to go in, or like me he loves reflections and is looking at them

The perfect proverb to accompany your shot. I like everything about this shot, from the comp to the tones.

Très joli noir et blanc, toute une histoire dans cette photo :)

If you read Chinese you could go in and rent novels from them, Sharon, that's what it says on the stand: Books, newspaper and magazines (to the right), Kiu Yick Book Shop (center), novels for rent (to the left). Of course in this case you read from top to down. :-)
You know Chinese can be written from top to down, left to right and right to left, but never down to top. People always ask me how do I know which way to read? Duh, I'm a Chinese, of course I know which way to read. If you see "book" and "koob" do you know which way to read? :-)

@Ti: ...thanks for the tips! I'll have to give this theory a go the next time I am in there :)
i bet there's some interesting books in there. probably all chinese books though. i bet there are books on herbal remedies. i wonder if the owner is a poet? from the unadorned look of the shop, i'm guessing he doesn't have many books of poems in stock.
the old man walking by, i bet he likes poetry.

@Seraphine: You are right, all the books in there are written in Chinese so I had really no idea what I was looking at. There were some obvious novels and a handful of magazines, but I really like the old dusty books that were sitting on the shelf...it made me wonder where they originally came from. Used book stores are always a favourite of mine.
you know he wants to go in! he looks curious

This is great; I love the look of the old gentleman, leaning to get a good peek at whatever he sees. I'll bet there's not a single book in there I could read, unless it was a picture book!

"All good people read good books / Now your conscience is clear" (Tanita Tikaram)
Chinese books & Scharon's great reflections make this beauty an amazing piece of work. And though I wouldn't understand what's written in these books, I have my own interpretation of this great photograph! Thanks for sharing another pearl of yours. All the best & safe travels, Fritsch.

Love his slow pace you captured with so much respect. And the reflections seem one story of one of the books. Can relate so easily with the quote, and i love Ti's comment, yes it makes us think and i immediately guess that Chinese people, able to read this way, must have a brain totally differently made with much more flexibility than ours !

I like his look of curious apprehension.
